Quotes

After studying a degree in business at the University of Northumbria, I fell into the IT sector almost by accident. I have remained there ever since and it's been 26 years now! I've always enjoyed the business side of IT as it is a fairly pacey and constantly changing industry. The technology we were marketing and selling 26 years ago almost doesn't exist today, which clearly demonstrates how far the industry has come as a whole. I started out working with Sun MicroSystems and their channel partners, and then worked with channel partners for a number of other IT vendors, including Avaya (formerly Nortel), EMC, and the Sun Netscape Alliance. I've always worked on the customer side of business, rather than the technical side, as I find myself enjoying the variation of working with different customers, understanding their pain points and challenges, and what keeps them awake.

I joined PortSwigger seven years ago when the company was newly forming - back then the whole company was a team of just three people. I was brought in to start the business development function. In the last 12 months this has grown massively - the business is totally unrecognizable to my early days. The team I work with is now named the Growth Tribe - we have a primary focus on improving the complete customer journey, with sub-teams focusing on web and content, marketing, and customer success.

What is your favorite thing about working at PortSwigger?

Working with a highly skilled engineering and research team that develop and innovate product features and capabilities that delight customers is absolutely my favorite thing about PortSwigger. We have a highly engaged and enthusiastic customer base that love Burp, but with so much opportunity for things we could do, the challenge is trying to prioritize what we do first!

What do you think makes PortSwigger different?

It has a clearly defined culture that encourages everyone to take responsibility to achieve the incredible. The non-hierarchical, agile approach to problem-solving across the business, with everyone feeling valued, makes it a fun environment to work in.

If you could have lunch with anyone alive or dead, who would it be?

My first choice would absolutely have to be David Bowie. Although, if I'm being honest, I'd probably suggest to him that we skip lunch and move straight onto dinner and dancing! When I was growing up my whole life plan was to become Mrs David Bowie - unlucky for him, somebody else got there first and I had to change my plans.

What is the proudest achievement of your life?

My two children - Charlie & Grace.
